Dr. Loes Hollestein is a clinical epidemiologist with a biomedical background and is affiliated with the Department of Dermatology of the Erasmus MC University Medical Centre. Dr. Hollestein is an expert in analyses of linked routinely collected health care data. She uses these databases to build population-based datasets of which there is a worldwide lack of data and/or samples to study skin cancer progression. Her aim is to improve skin cancer care by improving risk stratification. It is her vision that skin cancer staging can be improved by combining multiple disciplines: 1) epidemiology for population-based data, 2) biology for molecular features and 3) computer science to combine multiple features.
The Dutch Early-Stage Melanoma (D-ESMEL) study is a unique opportunity to identify and validate prognostic features for melanoma with spatial single cell -omics technologies following from the SPACE-MEL project on a population-based level
